Sachdeva sentenced to 11 year

Sujata “Sue” Sachdeva, the former Koss Corp. executive, was sentenced Wednesday to 11 years in prison for embezzling $34 million from the Milwaukee stereo headphone manufacturer.

U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman imposed the sentence after Sachdeva made a tearful statement – her first public comments since her arrest 11 months ago.

“I stand before you today truly remorseful. You have been my family, my friends and my co-workers for many years. I know you have been deeply hurt by my dishonesty in ways I never intended,” she said.

“I have lost everything that is important to me. I sincerely hope that everybody I hurt – Mr. Michael Koss, the employees, stock holders – can find it in their hearts to forgive me,” Sachdeva said, sobbing as she spoke.

Harley-Davidson, the Milwaukee, Wisconsin based bike maker opened its first dealership outlet in the country in Hyderabad this month.

Though the company has identified dealers in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Bangalore, the outlet in Hyderabad – Banjara Harley-Davidson – became the first to start operations.

The company has launched 12 variants of the bikes in 883 cc to 1800 cc range in the Indian market.

The bikes range from Rs 7 lakh for 883 cc model and goes up to Rs 35 lakh for a 1,800 cc engine powered bike. In fact, buyers of the top end models would have the choice to customise their bikes with specific options.

Judge accepts guilty plea in Koss embezzlement

A federal judge has accepted a guilty plea from a former Koss Corp. executive to felony fraud in a $34 million embezzlement.

Sujata “Sue” Sachdeva signed an agreement earlier this month to plead guilty to all six felony frauds counts against her.

Sachdeva also agreed to pay an estimated $34 million restitution to Koss Corp.

The plea deal calls for at least five years in prison, although prosecutors may recommend a much longer sentence.

Sujata “Sue” Sachdeva will plead guilty to all six felony fraud counts leveled against her and take responsibility for $34 million restitution owed to Koss Corp. under a plea deal that does not include a specific recommendation for the length of the prison sentence she should face, according to an agreement filed Friday in U.S. District Court.

Prosecutors and Sachdeva agree that the recommended prison sentence will be at least five to six years, though the U.S. attorney’s office can argue for several aggravating circumstances – such as her role as the organizer of the criminal activity – that could boost the recommended sentence up to the 15- to 20-year range. However, Sachdeva can object to the aggravating circumstances.

U.S. Export-Import Bank has decided to reconsider the application of Reliance Power

Word of a deal that could save 1,000 jobs across 13 states, including 300 in Wisconsin, broke Wednesday just hours before President Barack Obama spoke about the economy at a town hall meeting.

Democrats who were pressuring the White House to intervene on behalf of Bucyrus International Inc., a South Milwaukee manufacturer, praised the decision by the U.S. Export-Import Bank to reconsider a vote that effectively killed the project. The bank cited environmental concerns last week when it voted to deny loan guarantees to Reliance Power Inc., which is building a coal-fired power plant in India.

Without those guarantees, Bucyrus would lose its $600 million contract with Reliance for mining equipment, which the Wisconsin company said would jeopardize 1,000 jobs both at its main plant in Wisconsin and at suppliers across the country.

Recently (from March 1 2010) Namaste Plaza, a Indian and Pakistani grocery store expanded their business by moving to different office space in the same shopping complex. Moving to the larger store space paves the way for new items to introduce and more customers to come for shopping, says Mr. Raj Vyragaram. Raj is one of the partners in the new Namaste Plaza along with additional two partners.

During WisIndians.com recent visit (March 10 2010) to Namaste Plaza we found that store is more than double the size of its previous location. Store includes large selection of snacks, frozen foods from various well known brands, larger variety of dairy items and Indian beer section. New store will also carry Fresh Vegetables EVERY DAY!!! So, no need to rush on Tuesday or Friday, any day you shop, you will get fresh vegetables.

The store will start fresh juice bar from April 1st of this year. Customers can enjoy the fresh Mango, Banana, Chikku and more varieties of juice inside the store. Namaste plaza is also planning to open the meat section from April 1st 2010.
